Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, or related field preferred.
• Strong command of AP writing style, grammar, and syntax for digital and on-air copy.
• Experience with non-linear video editing and professional broadcast equipment.
• Ability to adapt quickly to shifting priorities and work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• End-to-End Reporting: research, enterprise, shoot, write, voice, and edit news stories for daily broadcasts under deadlines.
• Digital Content Development: write, package, and optimize breaking news for the website and mobile platforms.
• Audience Engagement: manage social media, interact with viewers, and track traffic via metrics tools.
• Source Cultivation: develop reliable community contacts, conduct field interviews, and review public records.
• Creative Pitching: participate in daily editorial meetings to propose unique, community-focused stories.
• Technical Execution: operate field live transmission units and gather high-quality visuals and natural sound.

This dynamic role requires a passionate storyteller who can produce, shoot, write, voice, edit, and deliver compelling news production content across all platforms. The ideal candidate transitions seamlessly between traditional broadcast reporting and modern digital content development, ensuring our local coverage is immediate, engaging, and optimized for TV, web, mobile apps, and social media.

• Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• End-to-End Reporting: Research, enterprise, shoot, write, voice, and edit high-impact news stories for daily broadcasts under tight deadlines.
• Digital Content Development: Write, package, and optimize breaking news stories, features, and creative "digital extras" for the station's website and mobile platforms.
• Audience Engagement: Actively build a loyal local audience by managing social media channels, interacting with viewers, readers, and tracking traffic patterns via metrics tools.
• Source Cultivation: Gather and verify factual information by developing reliable community contacts, conducting field interviews, and reviewing public records.
• Creative Pitching: Participate in daily editorial meetings to pitch unique, community-focused story ideas and discuss priority placement with news managers.
• Technical Execution: Operate field live transmission units (TVU) and gather high-quality visuals and natural sound.
• Required Qualifications & Skills
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, preferred or a related field of study.
• Technical Skills: Expert proficiency with non-linear video editing (Adobe Premiere or Bit Central) and professional broadcast field cameras.
• Writing Mastery: Flawless grasp of AP writing style, grammar, and syntax across digital and on-air copy.
• Communication: Strong on-camera presence, clear vocal delivery, and the proven ability to effectively ad-lib during breaking news or live field reports.
• Flexibility: Ability to adapt quickly to shifting priorities and work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, particularly during severe weather emergencies.
• Driving Record: A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record are strictly required to operate company news vehicles.
• Physical Demands & Work Environment
• Must be able to lift, carry, and maneuver up to 30 pounds of field video equipment.
• Willingness to conduct field reporting in various outdoor weather conditions.
