Job summary

Nexstar Media Inc. in the Myrtle Beach/Florence market is seeking a Multi-Media Journalist and Content Developer who can shoot, write, edit, and deliver compelling news across TV, web, mobile apps, and social media.

The MMJ will handle end-to-end reporting, digital content development, audience engagement, and field reporting, with ability to pitch ideas in daily meetings and operate field transmission units.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, preferred or related field.
• Expert proficiency with non-linear video editing (Adobe Premiere or Bit Central) and professional broadcast field cameras.
• Flawless grasp of AP writing style, grammar, and syntax across digital and on-air copy.
• Strong on-camera presence and vocal delivery; ad-lib during breaking news or live reporting.
• Able to adapt to shifting priorities and work nights, weekends, and holidays (weather events).
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required to operate news vehicles.

Additional Job Description Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• End-to-End Reporting: Research, enterprise, shoot, write, voice, and edit high-impact news stories for daily broadcasts under tight deadlines.
• Digital Content Development: Write, package, and optimize breaking news stories, features, and creative "digital extras" for the station's website and mobile platforms.
• Audience Engagement: Actively build a loyal local audience by managing social media channels, interacting with viewers, readers, and tracking traffic patterns via metrics tools.
• Source Cultivation: Gather and verify factual information by developing reliable community contacts, conducting field interviews, and reviewing public records.
• Creative Pitching: Participate in daily editorial meetings to pitch unique, community-focused story ideas and discuss priority placement with news managers.
• Technical Execution: Operate field live transmission units (TVU) and gather high-quality visuals and natural sound.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, preferred or a related field of study.

• Communication: Strong on-camera presence, clear vocal delivery, and the proven ability to effectively ad-lib during breaking news or live field reports.
• Flexibility: Ability to adapt quickly to shifting priorities and work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, particularly during severe weather emergencies.
• Driving Record: A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are strictly required to operate company news vehicles.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

• Must be able to lift, carry, and maneuver up to 30 pounds of field video equipment.
• Willingness to conduct field reporting in various outdoor weather conditions.
