Job summary

Eagle Rock Properties in Plainview, NY is seeking a Payroll & Benefits Accountant to manage payroll accounting, benefits, and related financial reporting across multiple entities in a real estate management firm.

This on-site role collaborates with Payroll, HR and Finance to ensure accurate GL posting, month-end close, and compliance with GAAP and applicable laws. The ideal candidate has a degree in accounting and strong payroll/benefits experience, with Excel/ERP proficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Three or more years of accounting experience, preferably including payroll or payroll benefits.
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and reconciliations.
• Experience with payroll systems and ERP/accounting software.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Strong communication and collaboration across departments.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, record, and reconcile payroll journal entries (wages, taxes, deductions, accruals, benefits).
• Analyze and reconcile payroll, benefits, and balance sheet accounts monthly for multiple entities.
• Prepare and maintain financial reports and schedules related to payroll and benefits.
• Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities.
• Collaborate with Payroll to ensure accurate processing and resolve discrepancies.
• Partner with HR to support accounting of employee benefit programs (health, retirement, life insurance).
• Ensure payroll and benefits accounting complies with GAAP and applicable laws.
• Record and pay payroll tax liabilities timely and accurately.
• Prepare documentation for internal audits.
• Identify opportunities to improve payroll and benefits processes and controls.
