Job summary

Haugland Group, a privately owned civil infrastructure and energy construction company in Long Island, NY, seeks an MTBM Operator to join our team. The role involves operating a Microtunnel Boring Machine and supporting trenchless tunneling projects across the United States.

The ideal candidate will operate MTBM equipment, coordinate with field crews, travel across the United States, and uphold safety and quality standards while maintaining line and grade.

Qualifications

• 5+ years experience operating MTBM or similar trenchless equipment.
• Experience with Herrenknecht systems and VMT guidance preferred.
• Knowledge of slurry systems, pipe jacking, and tunneling operations.
• Ability to read plans, survey data, and machine instrumentation.
• Mechanical troubleshooting across key systems.
• Familiarity with ground conditions (rock, mixed, soft).
• OSHA certification preferred; CDL required.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor MTBM system to ensure safe, precise tunneling and maintain line and grade.
• Manage tunneling operations including slurry, guidance, hydraulic jacking, and cutterhead performance.
• Coordinate with crews, survey, and project teams to meet production, safety, and quality goals.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and geotechnical issues during operations.
• Perform equipment inspections, assist with maintenance, and support system setup and commissioning.
• Maintain production logs and communicate progress, issues, and site conditions.
• Support mobilization, demobilization, and adherence to safety and compliance standards.
• Support coordination with subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel as required.

KeyFunctions:
