Job description

MST Therapist (Bilingual English/Spanish)

Rising Ground is committed to supporting children, adults, and families to thrive through hope and opportunity. We operate 138 programs across 101 locations in NYC and Westchester, reflecting our dedication to diversity and community engagement.

The MST (Multi-systemic Therapy) team supports youth aged 12-17.5 in NYC, providing intensive in-home and community-based treatment to facilitate their transition from placement in Close to Home facilities. MST focuses on addressing factors related to juvenile justice involvement across family, peers, school, and neighborhood systems, starting treatment while the youth is still in placement. MST Therapists aim to promote behavior change in the youth’s natural environment by leveraging systemic strengths, fostering personal responsibility, education, work ethic, community responsibility, and an intolerance of violence and prejudice.

  • Adhere to all safety procedures and actively correct unsafe practices.
  • Conduct MST assessments, engaging key participants and analyzing systemic factors.
  • Engage caregivers and key participants in active, change-oriented treatment, overcoming engagement barriers.
  • Implement treatment plans, interventions, and review strategies using MST principles.
  • Maintain clear documentation of treatment efforts for review and compliance.
  • Collaborate with relevant systems and participants to ensure cooperation in MST treatment.
  • Provide direct clinical treatment compatible with MST practices.
  • Participate in MST training, supervision, and consultation.
  • Stay informed about developments in the juvenile justice system.
  • Document progress notes in CONNECTIONS within 5 days of contact.
  • Refer families to housing, health, mental health, or preventive services as needed.
  • Provide supervision to ensure family safety and strengthen parental roles, if applicable.
  • Develop weekly updates for ACS and participate in bi-weekly case calls.
  • Participate in release, community, and elevated risk conferences, maintaining communication with ACS and the case team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications include a Master’s Degree in a NYS-licensable field (e.g., LMSW, LCSW, PhD, PsyD, LMFT, LMHC), bilingual in English and Spanish, clinical experience in therapies such as DBT, family systems, social ecological, CBT, behavioral therapies, and MST certification (training provided upon hire). Availability for 24/7 on-call rotation is required.

Position Details: Full-time, 35 hours/week, flexible schedule including evenings and weekends. The therapist must be available by phone and willing to schedule sessions at convenient times for families. Weekly group supervision in the office is expected.

Travel: The role involves travel within NYC boroughs, with work-related expenses reimbursed.
