The main purpose of this position is to manage the daily operations, maintenance of schedules, and overall personnel needs of the Elementary Department to foster a safe, collaborative environment for students, staff, and families. Reporting closely to the Chief Educational Programs Officer (CEPO), the position is responsible for interviewing, orienting, and evaluating faculty, leading department meetings, and implementing professional development. Key academic and operational duties include coordinating student placements, monitoring lesson plans, overseeing standardized testing, and enforcing IEP implementation and data collection. Additionally, this role drives the school’s master schedule, supports the bilingual education philosophy and language and literacy planning and policy, manages school discipline and safety protocols, and monitors the overall well-being and attendance of both students and staff.
This position is responsible for the daily operations of the Elementary Department that entails daily coverage, subbing, the support of the department’s needs, and the maintenance of daily schedules. In addition to operating the department, this includes serving students, teachers, staff, and families. Duties include assistance in hiring/orientation of new faculty, observation and evaluation of staff, the direction of staff/department meetings, the planning and implementation of the professional development training and in-service events, and the coordination of staff assignments and student placements. This position takes responsibilities in creating and improving the school’s master schedule, arranging school functions, supporting the bilingual education philosophy and language and literacy planning and policy, assisting with classroom management, promoting consistent discipline within the school, enforcing the IEP implementation and data collection, supervising state and local standardized testing to ensure compliance with established processes and policies, and monitoring weekly units and lesson plans that include appropriate educational objectives, strategies, and activities. This position includes adhering to the school’s school safety protocols, progressive disciplinary action, due process, as well as monitoring and maintaining student and staff well-being, including attendance and progress reports. This position collaborates closely with the Campus Chief Educational Programs Officer (CEPO) and its office as well as with other programs in the school. May be asked to assume other duties as assigned by CEPO.
Education: Master’s degree in Education of Deaf students, Education of Deaf students with additional disabilities or Special Education required.� Experience: Three years of successful classroom teaching experience with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students required. Must be fluent in American Sign Language and written English. Superior interpersonal and active listening skills required.
Knowledge of Deaf Community is preferred.
Must hold the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Administrator II certification or Supervisors of Instruction, Assistant Principals, and Principles licensure or be eligible to obtain Supervisors of Instruction, Assistant Principals, and Principals licensure in the required timeframe.
