Job summary

Maryland School for the Deaf (MSD) is seeking to fill a leadership role for the Elementary Department at the Columbia Campus. The position involves organizing a positive, safe environment, supervising staff, and coordinating with the CEPO to advance bilingual education strategies and effective parent-teacher communications.

The role includes hiring/orientation of new faculty, staff evaluation, professional development planning, and master schedule management while ensuring adherence to IEP

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Education of Deaf students is required.
• Three years of successful classroom teaching experience with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
• Fluency in American Sign Language and written English required.
• Superior interpersonal and active listening skills required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the Elementary Department, including scheduling, staffing, and student placements.
• Lead staff observations, evaluations, and professional development planning.
• Coordinate with CEPO and other program offices to align with bilingual education philosophy and policies.
• Ensure IEP implementation, data collection, and compliance with state testing requirements.
• Support school safety protocols and conduct regular attendance and progress reporting.
