Job summary

Matchbook Learning seeks a Middle School Social Studies Teacher for a departmentalized team at Wendell Phillips School 63 in Indianapolis. The role focuses on 6th, 7th, or 8th grade social studies using Savvas curriculum.

You will internalize curriculum and coach with fidelity, helping students achieve demonstrated gains. The position emphasizes coaching, SIOP methods for multilingual learners, and strong family communication within a supportive leadership structure.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in social studies, history, geography or a quantitative field is strongly preferred.
• Strong social studies content knowledge at the middle school level.
• Valid Indiana teaching license OR enrolled in / willing to enroll in a state-approved transition-to-teaching program.

Responsibilities

• Teach social studies to one assigned middle school grade level (6th, 7th, or 8th placement determined collaboratively).
• Deliver instruction using Savvas social studies curriculum with 100% fidelity all materials provided.
• Use data to inform daily and weekly instruction.
• Participate in weekly/bi-weekly data cycles always know exactly where students are and what they need next.
• Implement SIOP-aligned strategies to support Multilingual Learners in all social studies instruction.
• Conduct student conferencing to build individual relationships and academic accountability.
• Maintain a structured, high-expectation classroom environment using PBIS systems.
• Actively participate in coaching cycles, walkthroughs, and professional development.
• Communicate proactively with families about student progress.
• Collaborate with social studies and flex teachers, instructional coaches, and school leadership to support student growth.
