Job summary

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is hiring for a Class Size Teacher to address oversized classrooms in Priority Schools. Under the principal, you will instruct, monitor progress, and discipline students while maintaining records and meeting CPS standards.

The role requires completion of student teaching and holding a valid Illinois teaching certificate (PEL or ELS). You will collaborate with staff, communicate with guardians, and support attendance and classroom safety initiatives.

Qualifications

• Education requirements: Successful completion of student teaching and coursework to obtain the appropriate teaching certificate(s) issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.

Responsibilities

• Provide instructional planning with written lesson plans and progress records.
• Implement instructional methods and develop new teaching techniques.
• Manage classroom behavior and maintain attendance records and seating charts.
• Communicate with parents/guardians about student progress, attendance, and conduct.
• Participate in in-service meetings and professional staff meetings; may attend field trips and after-school activities.
