Job summary

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) seeks a Class Size Teacher to manage instruction and pupil progress within assigned classrooms in Priority Schools. The teacher is responsible for lesson planning, classroom environment, and maintaining accurate records of student achievement, in alignment with CPS standards.

Qualifications include completion of student teaching and a valid Illinois teaching certificate (PEL/ELS).

Qualifications

• Education Requirements: Successful completion of student teaching and course work to obtain ISBE teaching certificate.
• License Requirements: Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) or Educator License with Stipulations (ELS).
• Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: strong classroom management, adaptability, and strong communication with students, parents and staff.

Responsibilities

• Instructional planning with written lesson plans aligned to goals and records of student progress.
• Apply effective teaching methods and develop new techniques; use diverse instructional materials.
• Demonstrate knowledge of curriculum content and appropriate instructional level.
• Promote school programs to improve attendance and support anti-vandalism initiatives.
• Establish and enforce classroom rules consistent with CPS discipline code.
• Maintain attendance records and seating charts; monitor student progress.
• Communicate with parents/guardians about student progress, attendance, and behavior.
• Participate in staff meetings; assist with field trips and after-school activities.
