Job summary

Potterville Public Schools invites applications for an MS/HS Library Technician dedicated to literacy intervention and instructional support for identified at-risk students. Reports To: Building Principal and Certified Librarian


Position Summary


The primary purpose of this position is to provide literacy intervention, instructional support, and academic access services to identified at risk students. This position works collaboratively with classroom teachers, intervention staff, and the certified librarian to support reading comprehension, vocabulary development, engagement with text, and equitable access to instructional materials.


This role is designed to help remove barriers to curriculum access and improve student literacy achievement through direct student support, targeted intervention, literacy engagement, and instructional reinforcement aligned to Michigan Section 31a requirements.


Secondary responsibilities include assisting with the organization and maintenance of library resources and instructional materials in support of student literacy access and learning opportunities. Literacy intervention and direct student support responsibilities take priority when determining daily assignments and scheduling.

Key Responsibilities


Literacy Intervention & Student Support



  • Provide direct literacy intervention and instructional support to identified at risk students

  • Support reading comprehension, annotation, summarizing, vocabulary development, and engagement with classroom texts

  • Reinforce teacher directed literacy strategies and academic goals

  • Assist students in accessing appropriately leveled and high interest reading materials

  • Support students in breaking down complex texts and improving curriculum access

  • Collaborate with teachers and intervention staff to identify literacy needs and barriers to learning

  • Maintain records of intervention services, literacy support sessions, and student progress

  • Support Tier 2 and Tier 3 literacy intervention efforts aligned to district MTSS processes

  • Encourage positive academic habits, literacy engagement, and student confidence


Academic Access & Instructional Collaboration



  • Support equitable student access to instructional and literacy materials

  • Assist teachers in locating and organizing literacy resources aligned to student needs

  • Recommend accessible and high interest materials that support reading growth and engagement

  • Collaborate positively with classroom teachers, intervention staff, and the certified librarian

  • Support literacy focused activities, displays, and student engagement opportunities

  • Participate in professional learning and collaborative staff meetings as assigned


Secondary Library Resource & Organizational Support



  • Assist with organization and maintenance of library and instructional materials

  • Support circulation and student access to library resources

  • Maintain organized shelving, storage areas, and instructional material flow

  • Assist with inventory and catalog organization as directed

  • Support students and staff in locating library and instructional materials

  • Assist with basic library system data entry and record maintenance

  • Support the overall organization and accessibility of the library learning environment


Student Learning Environment & Professional Responsibilities



  • Support and reinforce positive student behaviors and school expectations

  • Maintain a welcoming, safe, and organized learning environment

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and educational records

  • Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and positive communication

  • Complete assigned tasks accurately and in a timely manner

  • Follow district procedures, policies, and chain of command
  • Pursue ongoing professional growth and training opportunities


This position may be funded through Michigan Section 31a and is specifically designed to provide direct and indirect support services to identified at-risk students through literacy intervention, instructional reinforcement, and removal of barriers to curriculum access.


The position aligns to Section 31a requirements through:



  • Direct literacy intervention and reading support services

  • Tier 2 and Tier 3 academic assistance for identified students

  • Support for reading comprehension, vocabulary development, and literacy engagement

  • Increased access to instructional and literacy resources


Library organizational responsibilities are secondary in nature and exist to support student literacy access, instructional support, and equitable availability of learning resources connected to the educational purpose of the position.


Compensation


Compensation will be provided in accordance with applicable district policies, collective bargaining agreements, and approved salary schedules. Specific compensation details will be discussed with selected candidates.
