Job summary

Shakamak Elementary School is seeking an enthusiastic Elementary Library and Digital Learning Facilitator dedicated to inspiring children to become lifelong readers and responsible digital citizens. Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher in education, library science, literacy, instructional technology, computer science, or related field.
  • Experience in an elementary school, library, educational setting, or youth program.
  • Knowledge of children's literature and reading development.
  • Experience planning engaging instructional activities.
  • Familiarity with the Indiana Academic Standards for English Language Arts and Computer Science.
  • Experience integrating technology into elementary instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Foster a lifelong love of reading through engaging and meaningful library experiences.

  • Reinforce literacy concepts including vocabulary, comprehension, research, inquiry, and information literacy.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support curriculum and student learning.
  • Design hands-on learning experiences that extend classroom instruction through literature and library resources.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learners.

Position Purpose

Shakamak Elementary School is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and student-centered Elementary Library and Digital Learning Facilitator who is passionate about inspiring children to become lifelong readers, learners, and responsible digital citizens.


The Library and Digital Learning Facilitator will cultivate a culture of literacy, curiosity, creativity, and exploration by creating meaningful library experiences that reinforce classroom learning, foster a love of reading, and integrate age-appropriate technology and digital literacy skills.


Working collaboratively with teachers and administration, the facilitator will help ensure the library serves as an extension of the classroom, a place where every student feels welcomed, challenged, inspired, and excited to learn.


Essential Responsibilities

Literacy and Student Engagement


  • Foster a lifelong love of reading through engaging and meaningful library experiences.

  • Read and share high-quality literature with students through interactive read-a louds, book talks, author studies, and literacy activities.

  • Encourage students to explore a wide variety of literature and informational texts while helping them discover books that match their interests and reading abilities.

  • Inspire curiosity, creativity, imagination, and critical thinking through literature,

  • Support reluctant and struggling readers by recommending engaging books and resources.

  • Promote family literacy and encourage reading beyond the school day.


Instruction and Learning


  • Plan and facilitate engaging library lessons aligned with the Indiana Academic Standards for English Language Arts.

  • Reinforce literacy concepts including vocabulary, comprehension, research, inquiry, and information literacy.

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support curriculum, classroom projects, and student learning.

  • Design hands-on learning experiences that extend classroom instruction through literature and library resources.

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.


Digital Learning


  • Integrate technology into library instruction through engaging, age-appropriate learning experiences.

  • Reinforce the Indiana Academic Standards for Computer Science through digital citizenship, keyboarding, technology applications, research skills, and introductory computer science concepts.

  • Teach responsible and safe use of technology.

  • Assist students in becoming confident digital learners.


Library Leadership


  • Maintain an organized, welcoming, attractive, and student-centered library environment.

  • Manage circulation of library materials including checkout, returns, shelving, inventory, and overdue materials.

  • Recommend books and educational resources that support curriculum and student interests.

  • Create engaging library displays, reading promotions, and literacy celebrations throughout the year.

  • Assist with collection development and maintenance.

  • Collaborate with the district's library staff to ensure consistency, share ideas, and strengthen library programming across the district.


Qualifications

  • Experience in an elementary school, library, educational setting, or youth program.
