Job Summary

The MRI Technologist I performs procedures according to departmental protocols and standards, operating MRI scanners and associated equipment with proficiency. This includes scanner, post-processing stations, IV contrast injectors, O2 and suction equipment, patient transport, and monitoring equipment.

Essential Functions

• Examines requests, verifies orders, and consults with Radiologists if needed before performing exams.
• Properly identifies patients using two identifiers, assists patients, and explains procedures.
• Reviews medical history, documents clinical data, and correlates test results.
• Assumes responsibility for exams from start to finish.
• Prepares and administers IV contrast as per protocols, recording details as needed.
• Evaluates image quality, recognizes abnormal anatomy, and processes additional images if necessary.
• Performs patient care functions, monitors patient condition, and initiates emergency procedures when needed.
• Performs MRI scans, assists during invasive procedures, and practices sterile techniques.
• Obtains medications or contrast materials under licensed practitioner’s direction.
• Practices radiation safety, reports equipment malfunctions, and maintains safety standards.
• Operates radiology computer systems, documents contrast administration, and maintains a clean workspace.
• Assists other medical personnel during exams and maintains MRI safety knowledge.

Physical Requirements

Requires moderate to heavy physical effort, including lifting, moving patients, and equipment. Occasional standing, walking, sitting, and bending. May be exposed to various physical conditions and radiation safety risks.

Education, Experience, and Certifications

Graduate of an accredited two-year AMA-approved program in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology or actively enrolled in a registry-eligible program. ARRT certification in Radiologic Technology or NMTCB for Nuclear Medicine, with advanced registry in MRI within one year of hire. CPR certification required.
