Job summary

Inova Fair Oaks Hospital is seeking a dedicated MRI Technologist for a full-time night shift (Monday–Thursday, 9 pm–7:30 am) with sign-on bonus and relocation assistance eligible. The role involves patient-focused MRI imaging, safety protocols, and collaboration with the radiology team within a leading Virginia healthcare system.

Minimum qualifications include ARRT MRI Registry eligibility, MRI certification within 12 months, and licensure/certification per program requirements.

Qualifications

• Minimum: accredited radiography or nuclear medicine program with MRI training; MRI Registry eligibility required.
• Must obtain MRI certification within 12 months of hire.
• CNMT, ARRT alternative accepted (CAMRT/ARMRIT).

Responsibilities

• Communicates with patients to obtain history and consent; explains procedures and reduces anxiety.
• Assists physicians in MRI examinations using standard protocols and sterile technique.
• Uses knowledge of IVs, heparin locks, and central lines as they pertain to MRI procedures.
• Ensures patient safety with rails, brakes and monitoring; reports unsafe conditions.
• Performs routine maintenance of imagers/processors to maintain image quality.

MRI Technologist Job Responsibilities

• Communicates effectively with patients to obtain clinical history/informed consent to assist the physician in optimizing the performance and interpretation of the examination. Explains procedure to patients/families and answers any questions to ease anxiety and ensure patient cooperation.
• Assists the physician in performing a variety of examinations using standard department protocols, isolation precautions and/or sterile technique.
• Utilizes knowledge of IV's, heparin locks and central line usage as they pertain to Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
• Demonstrates patient safety in department by use of side rails, braking mechanisms and patient monitoring. Reports, documents and corrects any adverse, unsafe or unusual conditions.
• Performs/recognizes the need for routine maintenance of imagers/processors to maintain consistent quality images.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: Graduate of an accredited school of radiography or graduate of an accredited school of nuclear medicine with MRI training (must be MRI Registry eligible through ARRT).
• License: American Registered Radiologic Technologists, or ARMRIT or CAMRT. CNMT certification in lieu of ARRT is also acceptable. Must obtain MRI certification within 12 months of hire.
• Certification: Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association
• Experience: Prior experience preferred as Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist and/or MRI Technologist in a hospital/healthcare environment or recent student at Inova Health System.
