Job summary

Lehigh Valley Health Network is seeking an MRI Technologist to operate MRI equipment, collaborate with radiologists, and provide direct patient care across emergency, inpatient, and outpatient settings. The role requires adhering to MRI safety protocols and producing high-quality imaging for accurate diagnoses.

The position involves pre-screening and educating patients, administering contrast under supervision, and maintaining a clean, well-organized department while supporting trauma and ICU

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Graduated from an accredited radiology program with a specialized diploma.
  • Ability to handle medical and confidential information ethically.
  • Clear and concise written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical data related to MRI exams.
  • AHA Basic Life Support certification upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Operates MRI equipment, computer, and image management systems.

Summary

Operates magnetic resonance imaging equipment, computer, and image management systems utilized in performing MRI exams. Collaborates with the radiologist and fellow staff members regarding patient testing. Complies with MRI safe practices at all times. Works in a hospital facility that offers full hospital services. Provides direct patient care to high acuity patients encompassing emergency, inpatient and outpatient classes supporting up to and including trauma and ICU.

Job Duties
  • Performs contrast injections under the direct supervision of the radiologist or designated physician.
  • Assists in the diagnosis and treatment of neonate, infant, children, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
  • Acquires or produces tomographic images of designated portions of the human body to obtain a diagnosis using magnetic resonance imaging equipment.
  • Prepares and positions patients and selects anatomic and technical parameters accurately to produce cross-sectional images of the body.
  • Ensures prompt submission of high-quality of all images and documents sent to PACS (image quality and patient data/history).
  • Performs patient pre-screening, scheduling, and education related to the examination.
  • Assists in maintaining a clean, and orderly department to include procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, and any other areas in department.
  • Additional duties based upon the needs of the department.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED and
  • Specialized Diploma Graduate of an accredited Radiology program
  • Ability to deal effectively and ethically with medical and confidential information relating to patients, families, physicians and nursing personnel.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of maturity and exercise individual judgment in working with patients, equipment, and personnel that are involved in MRI exams.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in all written and oral communications, including email.
  • Skills in technical data interpretation.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire
  • RT - Registered Technologist Radiology - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire or
  • MR - Magnetic Resonance Imaging ARRT - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire or
  • ARMRIT - Registered Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist - American Registry of MRI Technologists within 1 Year
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Insurance Benefit and Eligibility Websites.
  • Knowledge of Medical Insurance Terminology.
Physical Demands

Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
