Job summary

Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, part of Commonwealth Health, seeks an MR technologist to perform magnetic resonance procedures, ensuring patient safety and effective communication with radiologists.

Requires an accredited MRI program, ARRT MRI certification, and 2+ years of MRI experience preferred; BLS is required. This is a full-time evening shift in the Imaging Services department.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited program in Radiology Technology, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Radiation Therapy with advanced training in MRI.
• ARRT MRI certification required; cross-training acceptable if eligible and completed within 6 months.

POSITION PURPOSE

Perform magnetic resonance procedures while demonstrating an understanding of human cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, medical terminology and magnetic safety. The MR technologist relies on good communication skills to act as the primary liaison between the patient and the interpreting radiologist. The use of professional and ethical judgment and critical thinking allow the technologist to be a responsible member of the health care team

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• Graduate of an accredited program in Radiology Technology, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Radiation Therapy, either hospital based or college degree program, with advanced training and certification in MRI required.

Experience / Specialized Skills / Aptitudes

• A minimum of two (2) years' experience as a staff technologist is preferred.
• Experience/certification/internship in MRI is preferred, however cross-training will be provided at the discretion of the Director/Medical Director of Imaging Services.
• Competency in components of radiography practice as appropriate; MRI safety and protection.
• Technical expertise; knowledge of anatomy, teach/instruct, manual dexterity, safety conscious, clerical accuracy, communication skills. IV Therapy skill competency

Licenses / Certificates

• Advanced registry/certification in MRI via the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
• If cross-trained or internship in MRI, and registry eligible, must have advanced registry/certification in MRI within six (6) months of completion of MRI training.
• BLS required
