Job description

General Summary

Performs routine and MRI specialized advanced skill level procedures. Produces magnetic resonance (MR) images of designated anatomical areas according to established practices and procedures. Performs duties as on‑call technologist, with ability to perform MRI exams on all scanners within the organization. Trains new staff. Holds the MRI advanced level specialty exam as certified by ARRT.

Responsibilities

• Perform MR imaging studies; obtain patient history; explain routine procedures and address patient concerns.
• Operate at a specialized advanced level, performing a minimum of two advanced skills specialty exams (breast biopsy, prostate biopsy, cardiac imaging, spectroscopy) and/or capable of performing MRI exams on all scanners.
• Under direct supervision of the physician, administer intravenous contrast media; recognize complications such as contrast reaction and treat appropriately.
• Schedule cases to coordinate with other patient examinations.
• Position and transfer patients comfortably; immobilize patients as necessary and practice MRI safety procedures.
• Prepare and maintain written documentation as required by the profession and the department.
• Perform other related duties as identified.

Qualifications

Minimum Education

• High School Diploma or GED

Work Experience

• 4 years required

Licenses

• Basic Life Support upon hire required
• Registered Technologist-Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) – ARRT upon hire required
• Certified MRI Technologist – ARMRIT upon hire required

Courses and Training

• Accredited radiologic technology program and training in MRI procedures; must have passed the MR advanced level specialty exam as per ARRT.
