Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a radiologic technologist to perform radiographic imaging procedures with high independence and clinical judgment. The role involves patient positioning, imaging, result analysis, and reporting within established standards.

Responsibilities include educating patients, preparing contrast media when ordered, monitoring patient status, and ensuring equipment safety and quality control. Prior MRI/ARRT certification and CPR are required.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent education in radiologic technology.
  • ARRT(R) in Radiography (R) or MR technologist certification (MR) within 18 months if only ARRT(R).
  • CPR certification and background checks as required by policy and HIPAA.

Responsibilities

  • Position patient and perform imaging procedures independently.
  • Educate patient regarding procedures and equipment for understanding and cooperation.
  • Prepare and administer contrast media within scope of practice and monitor patient status.
  • Prepare equipment, select exposure factors, and ensure safety standards and QC on equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Sign on Bonus Eligible: $30,000 (3 year commitment)



GENERAL OVERVIEW

This job performs prescribed radiographic imaging procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. Competently performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment and initiative.



ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s) independently. Analyzes results and identifies issues with the quality of imaging results. Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure. Enters, transmits and reports scan results. (40%)

  • Reviews patient history and physician's orders. Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation. (20%)

  • When ordered, prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice. Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate. (20%)

  • Prepares equipment and supplies. Selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters. Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment. Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary. (20%)

  • Performs other duties as assigned.



Minimum


  • Associate’s Degree; or equivalent from a two year college or a technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent education and experience.

  • American Registry Of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography (R), or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT), or Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) registered as an MR technologist certification required



Preferred


  • Prior radiology experience

  • CPR – American Heart Association

  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate

  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate

  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate

  • If ARRT (R) is the only certification ARRT in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR) is required within 18 months from hire date

  • Employees in a MRI role (prior to July, 1 2022) who do not have a MRI certification are not required to obtain them; employees in a MRI role with existing MRI certification are required to maintain active certifications. Employees hired, or transferred into the MRI role after July 1, 2022 are also required to maintain active certifications
