Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Radiologic Technologist to perform prescribed radiographic imaging procedures with independent judgment. The role includes preparing and administering contrast media, educating patients, and ensuring image quality.

Responsibilities include positioning, reviewing orders, reporting results, and maintaining safety standards. Applicants should have an associate degree or equivalent and hold ARRT(R)/ARMRIT/CAMRT MR certification with ongoing MRI credential

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree or equivalent from a two year college or technical school.
• ARRT in Radiography (R) or ARMRIT or CAMRT MR technologist certification required.
• ARRT (R) must obtain MR within 18 months from hire date.
• CPR – American Heart Association.
• Act 34, Act 33, Act 73 background clearances.
• MRI role pre-July 1 2022 exception applies but certification maintenance required for MRI roles.

Responsibilities

• Review patient history and educate patients on procedures, equipment, and exams to ensure understanding.
• Prepare and administer contrast media and/or medications within scope; monitor patient status.
• Prepare equipment and supplies; set exposure factors and imaging parameters; perform safety and quality control tasks; troubleshoot equipment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

General Overview

This job performs prescribed radiographic imaging procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. Competently performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment and initiative.

Essential Responsibilities

• Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s) independently. Analyzes results and identifies issues with the quality of imaging results. Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure. Enters, transmits and reports scan results. (40%)
• Reviews patient history and physician's orders. Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation. (20%)
• When ordered, prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice. Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate. (20%)
• Prepares equipment and supplies. Selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters. Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment. Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary. (20%)
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

• Associate’s Degree; or equivalent from a two year college or a technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent education and experience.
• American Registry Of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography (R), or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT), or Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) registered as an MR technologist certification required.
• ARRT (R) only must obtain ARRT in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR) within 18 months from hire date.
• Employees in a MRI role (prior to July 1 2022) who do not have a MRI certification are not required to obtain them; employees in a MRI role with existing MRI certification are required to maintain active certifications. Employees hired, or transferred into the MRI role after July 1 2022 are also required to maintain active certifications.
• CPR – American Heart Association.
• Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.
• Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate.
• Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.

Preferred

• Prior radiology experience.
