Job Description

Operates x-ray, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and auxiliary equipment, prepares patients for examination, processes images, maintains and cleans equipment. Maintains required documentation.

Job Responsibility
  1. Positions and instructs patients regarding procedure in order to obtain desired diagnostic imaging results as specified by physician.
  2. Provides patient immobilization devices as required.
  3. Selects proper technical factors on an individual patient basis.
  4. Selects and operates equipment according to the specific diagnostic procedure involved.
  5. Utilizes computer systems for data acquisition during CT and MRI procedures.
  6. Assists Physician or Nurse in the administration of contrast material.
  7. Verifies there are no contraindications to IV administration of oral contrast agent.
  8. Explains in layman's terms the administration of IV contrast, and completes the Iodinated IV Contrast Information sheet with information provided by patient, family member or proxy.
  9. Calculates contrast dose based on patient's weight.
  10. Mixes oral contrast and other related duties, as required.
  11. Recognizes and assists in the treatment of contrast agent reactions and/or IV extravasations.
  12. Reviews processed images, and verifies in PACS, to ensure acceptable diagnostic quality. Transfers images to appropriate workstations to expedite interpretations, as needed.
  13. Maintains documentation in system of all imaging procedures performed according to established policies.
  14. Performs designated Quality Control and Electro-Mechanical checks at specified frequencies. Coordinates preventive maintenance of equipment, as required.
  15. Maintains proper inventory of all supplies necessary for assigned modality (maintains security of all oral and IV contrast).
  16. Continuously seeks to improve Press Ganey scores via patient satisfaction.
  17. Interfaces with patient, staff and physicians to facilitate optimal patient experience.
  18. Seeks to reduce patient examination wait time. Schedules procedures, as necessary.
  19. Transport patients to expedite examinations and/or patient satisfaction, as needed.
  20. Provides on the job instructions to other Imaging Technologists in CT, MRI, as needed.
  21. Regularly rotates through CAT Scan, Special Procedures and Diagnostic Radiology, if trained.
  22. Performs related duties as required.

ADA Essential Functions: Frequently lifts or moves objects. Occasionally carries objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Frequently pushes patients or objects up to 200 pounds. Occasionally moves with assistance, patients or objects greater than 250 pounds.

Job Qualification
  1. Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technologist program, required.
  2. New York State Department of Health licensure as a Radiologic Technologist, required.
  3. American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Registered Technologist, required.
  4. Minimum of two (2) years experience as a Radiology Technologist, required.
  5. Competency in CT and/or MRI, preferred.
