Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking an MRI Technologist to support the RWJ New Brunswick Radiology department. The position involves operating MR equipment, preparing patients, and maintaining records in the cardiac MRI suite, under supervision of the MRI supervisors and Radiology director.

Requirements include ARRT-MR certification (or ARMRIT with ARRT-MR within 1 year), AMA-approved Radiography education, and BLS. Per diem, day shift, on-site.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of an AMA approved school of Radiography Education.
• ARRT-MR certification; ARMRIT may be considered if ARRT-MR is obtained within one year of hire.
• One year of prior RRT experience.
• BLS certification from AHA.

Responsibilities

• Maintain MRI logs, paperwork and charts.
• Operate and maintain MRI equipment in the cardiac MRI suite.
• Prepare patients for MRI procedures and ensure patient care across age groups.
• Transport patients to and from the MRI department as needed.
• Keep MRI and prep rooms clean and stocked; manage records and films.

Job Overview

The MRI technologist functions under the direction of the MRI supervisors and the director of the Radiology Department. Primary responsibilities include technical, supportive and departmental responsibilities associated with the overall course of diagnostic procedures. The MRI technologist has the knowledge and skills necessary to operate and maintain MR equipment in the cardiac MRI suite. The MRI technologist also performs duties associated with the preparation of patients for MRI procedures and demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to the specific age categories of patients cared for (adolescents, adults and/or geriatrics).

Qualifications

Required:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of an A.M.A. approved school of Radiography Education.
• ARRT-MR certification.
• May consider ARMRIT certification on the condition of obtaining ARRT-MR within one year of hire.
• One year of previous RRT experience.
• Must communicate clearly and courteously with interrelationships.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).

Preferred:

• ARMRIT Licensure with MRI Certification.
• 3 years MRI experience.
• GE experience.

Essential Functions

• Maintains all necessary MRI logs, paperwork and charts.
• Inventories and copies or orders any MRI associated paperwork.
• Appropriately assigns MRI procedural numbers.
• Maintains accurate procedural log of MRI patients.
• Completes all MRI associated procedural paperwork.
• Enters and completes patient charges for MRI.
• Correctly labels all patient optical disks, CDs, and films.
• Tracks all studies in RIS.
• Performs other supportive duties associated with the overall functioning of the Cardiac MRI Department.
• Transports patients to and from the MRI department as needed.
• Stocks MRI room and Prep room with all necessary supplies daily.
• Retrieves all necessary records, CDs, patient files, etc. as needed.
• Files complete patient studies.
• Continuously maintains a clean and neat MRI room, Prep room and control room.
• Operates supportive equipment associated with MRI procedures.
• Prepares and cares for patients undergoing MRI diagnostic procedures.
