Job Overview

MRI Technologist operates Magnetic Resonance Imaging scanners, performs MRI procedures at a level not requiring constant supervision, assesses patient needs and provides age‑specific care, monitors safety and comfort, and produces quality examinations for diagnosis.

Qualifications

Certifications and Licenses Required

• Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology
• NJ License required

Scheduling Requirements

• Flex schedule
• Coverage for day, evening and weekend shifts

Essential Functions

• Adapts to new protocols and software upgrades
• Alerts Radiologist or Resident to questionable pathology before releasing patient
• Coordinates and schedules patients with other departments when applicable
• Demonstrates flexibility to scheduling changes
• Demonstrates knowledge of technical scanning, filming, and clinical protocols
• Interviews and educates patients prior to MRI exam, including claustrophobic patients, explains procedure, keeps patient informed, and assists patients on and off scanner
• Maintains safety in the magnet suite, knowledgeable of non‑ferrous vs ferrous materials and metal appliance deflection
• Observes equipment, troubleshoots malfunctions, and reports incidents to supervisor
• Uses an understanding of principles of growth and development to assess each patient’s age‑specific needs and provide care
• Uses monitoring devices for sedated and anesthetized patients
• Verifies physician orders and documents completion on inpatient charts
