Responsibilities
Position Summary: Uses machines that utilize strong magnets and radio waves, instead of radiation, to create body images. The radiology technologist works in the imaging department and has specific training to perform complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the MRI department.
Position Responsibilities:
- Enforce magnetic field safety for MRI patients, operators, and visitors.
- Monitor patient condition before and after the scan to ensure safety and comfort.
- Explain testing procedures to patients, ensuring understanding of the exam involvement.
- Position and instruct patients regarding preparation for MRI tests.
- Maintain knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, MRI terminology, practices, and procedures.
- Familiarity with specific MRI coding systems.
- Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA guidelines.
- Prepare equipment to ensure operational safety and diagnostic standards.
- Troubleshoot equipment failures and imaging quality issues, contacting service representatives as needed.
- Complete quality checks and maintain equipment logs.
- Manage clinical supplies inventory to ensure readiness for procedures.
- Participate actively in patient exams, handling routine, urgent, and emergent requests.
- Assist with basic clinical care and patient scheduling as required.
- Provide patient orientation, preparation, history taking, and teaching before, during, and after exams.
- Review physician orders for consistency and appropriateness.
- Select and adjust equipment settings for optimal image quality.
- Follow departmental protocols to complete diagnostic exams.
- Seek assistance for incomplete procedures or patient care issues.
- Ensure complete documentation, including charges and safe patient discharge.
- Perform image post-processing and quality assurance in PACS, maintaining logs and demographic data.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma (required)
- Associate’s Degree in Healthcare or Imaging Studies (preferred)
- Registered by ARRT (R) at hire and maintained current (required)
- Certification by ARMRIT or ARRT (MR) at hire or within 9 months, maintained current (required)
- Texas MRT certification within 9 months of hire/transfer (required)
- BLS certification by the American Heart Association (required)
Minimum Experience: Previous MRI experience preferred.
