Job summary

The General Hospital Corporation in Chelsea, MA is seeking an MRI Technologist for the MGH Chelsea outpatient site. The role involves evening shifts (2:30-11:00pm) with every other weekend (2:30-8:00pm) and a 20K sign-on bonus.

The department offers on-site parking and a collaborative team environment. Responsibilities include performing MRI studies, patient preparation, image acquisition, protocol selection, safety management, IV administration of MR contrast, and QA duties.

Qualifications

• Certificate or diploma in medical imaging is required.
• Associate’s degree is preferred.
• MRI registered technologist with ARRT or ARMRIT credential must be obtained within the last year.
• Basic Life Support certification within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Perform MRI studies under supervision using MRI systems.
• Prepare and position patients, set imaging parameters, acquire images, and display results.
• Select imaging protocols and perform QA scans as required.
• Rotate to MRI scanners across the department as needed.
• Verify patient identity and exam details per Joint Commission guidelines.
• Perform outpatient exams with/without contrast and optimize scans.
• Manage MRI safety for all exams and coordinate clinical care.
• Insert IVs and administer MR contrast as needed; monitor for adverse reactions.

Job Summary

20K sign on bonus MRI Technologist for MGH Chelsea (outpatient). Mon/Wed/Fri 2:30-11:00pm + every other weekend 2:30-8:00pm. 2 tech model. Department closes on July 4th, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. Free on‑site parking for staff.

Responsibilities

• Under general supervision, safely perform magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies using a magnetic resonance imaging system.
• Prepare patients, position them, set imaging parameters, acquire images, perform computer processing and display images.
• Select appropriate imaging protocols for patient studies and perform quality assurance scans as required.
• Show ability to rotate to MRI scanners across the assigned department as needed.
• Confirm patient name, date of birth, medical record number, and MRI exam ordered with each patient per Joint Commission guidelines.
• Perform routine outpatient exams with and without contrast, optimize scan parameters to maintain diagnostic quality.
• Manage MRI safety components for all exams, participate in clinical care coordination, and function as a final checkpoint prior to scanning for patient safety and protocol clarification.
• Insert IV catheters as needed and administer intravenous MR contrast agents using a MR‑compatible power injector; monitor for and respond to adverse reactions.
• Record all information regarding contrast injections in the electronic medical record.
• Perform point‑of‑care testing where applicable.
• Instruct patients and visitors on MRI safety procedures and enforce safety policies.
• Identify hazardous system malfunctions, secure the area, and remove patients and personnel from the magnet bay during emergencies.
• Perform scheduled quality control procedures on the MRI scanner and related equipment, record QA results, and report any equipment‑related problems to the supervisor.
• Assist other department staff with scheduling, transporting patients, inventory, filing, and other duties as needed.

Qualifications

• Certificate or diploma in medical imaging required.
• Associate’s degree preferred.
• MRI registered technologist with ARRT or ARMRIT credential obtained within the last year.
• Basic Life Support certification within 90 days.
