University of Pittsburgh Physicians is hiring a flex full-time MRI Research Technologist Adv to support the Radiology Department located at UPMC Presbyterian 200 Lothrop Street Pittsburgh, PA, 15213. This position will work 4, 10-hour shifts and 1 Saturday a month.

The Magnetic Resonance Research Center is a large research center with a diverse and growing userbase and set of active studies. There is room to grow in many areas such as independently running research protocol, specialization with MRI-compatible devices, interaction with many special patient populations, and use of cutting-edge 3T and 7T MRI scanners.

This role will perform MR procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision under general direction of the supervisor. Perform a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in the operation of MR equipment necessary for securing imaging of various portions of the body for use in the diagnosis of disease or injury (and other duties as listed)

Purpose:

Responsibilities:

• DECISION MAKING AND SELF DEVELOPMENT. Exhibits sound and accurate judgment. Makes decisions based on situational assessment. Undertake self-development activities. Participate in Research Presentations.
• QUALITY AND PROCESS IMPROVEMENT. Participate in the Patient Safety Program and the quality improvement program of the department and hospital activities. Look continually for opportunities to improve processes and systems. Perform job functions thoroughly and accurately. Display commitment to service improvement. Patient safety is addressed through marking sides on films, marking side site, and proper identification of patients. Seek increased responsibilities.
• MANAGE WORKLOAD AND INTERACTIONS WITH OTHERS. Demonstrate flexibility. Prioritize and organize multiple duties in a constantly changing environment. Accept and support change. Available for duty according to department guidelines for unscheduled absences, punctuality and manpower requirements. Successfully manage competency demands. Develop Team Dynamics and teamwork. • PERFORM MR EXAMS. Film MR exams as described in the protocol guidelines. Adjust to fluctuations in workload. Maintain working knowledge of all scan equipment e.g. coils, upgrade, etc. Perform non-technical duties as required. Perform image post processing, networking and archiving as needed. Perform patient assessments as needed. Perform venipuncture and administer MR contrast as ordered by the radiologists. Maintain working knowledge of scanning equipment and perform minor calibrations on the equipment and/or report the need for major services or repairs to proper personnel. Operate and maintain monitoring equipment.
• PATIENT INTERACTION AND RECORDKEEPING. Receive patients and verify identification and written orders for requested and approved procedures. Explain procedures and answer patients' questions and concerns before performing the procedure. Position patients, choose appropriate factors and follow established protocols required to produce high quality MR scans. Complete requisition and charge vouchers according to department procedures.
• COMMUNICATION. Establish and maintain an atmosphere of caring and support for patients, visitors, medical staff and co-workers. Manage difficult or emotional customer situations and respond promptly to customer needs. Communicate effectively and concisely with all members of the healthcare team, verbally and in writing. Exhibit good listening skills.
• The MR Research Technologist, Advanced must have satisfactorily completed formal training in a radiology related program, i.e. Radiology or Nuclear Medicine with accreditation by the ARRT or NMTCB.
• A minimum of 2 years of MR experience is required.
