Mountain View Jr. High in West Haven, Utah seeks a Secondary Aide (Student Advocate) to support students below proficiency through targeted guidance, resources, and collaboration with administrators, counselors, and families.

This role focuses on building relationships, mentoring at-risk students, and helping them meet graduation goals within the Weber School District framework. 8 hours/day, 180-day calendar, benefits eligible as outlined in the district guide.

Responsibilities

  • Scholarship Search & Application Support: build and maintain a curated database of local, regional, and national scholarships while assisting students with essays, resumes, and recommendations.
  • Financial Aid & FAFSA Completion: guide students and families through financial aid processes, hosting workshops and assisting with FAFSA/state applications.
  • Student Outreach & Mentorship: engage at‑risk students, build trust, and support academic, behavioral, and social‑emotional growth.
  • Key Role in MTSS Framework: support Tier 2 and 3 students with monitoring, mentoring, interventions, and progress tracking.
  • Relationship Building with Students: develop trust-based relationships to address academic, behavioral, and social‑emotional needs.
  • Guidance and Advocacy: collaborate with families, teachers, counselors, and community partners to monitor attendance, engagement, and behavior.
  • Academic Support and Coaching: help students set goals, monitor progress, and develop study habits for eventual return to Tier 1.
  • Communication and Collaboration: maintain open, professional communication with students, families, staff, and community stakeholders.
  • Data Collection and Progress Monitoring: collect and analyze attendance, academics, engagement, and behavior data for interventions.
  • Record Keeping and Confidentiality: document interactions accurately while upholding confidentiality and district policies.
  • Student Supervision: assist in supervising students in instructional and non-instructional settings.

Salary Schedule: Lane 4(B) of the Educational Support Paraprofessionals Salary Schedule

Hours: 8.0 hours/day | 40.0 hours/week

This position is funded, in full or in part, through grant allocations or student enrollment-based funding sources. Continued employment (or the position’s hourly workload) is contingent upon the availability of future funding, as determined on yearly basis.

Purpose Statement:

The role of the Student Advocate Aide is to support students below proficiency in a relational, non-punitive manner, fostering trust and rapport. This role is essential in helping students build academic, behavioral, and social skills through encouragement and tailored guidance, allowing them to stay on pace or progress within the Weber School District graduation plan. Working under the guidance Administration and Counseling, the Advocate Aide will provide direct support, help students access school and community resources, and collaborate with all stakeholders in the student's educational journey.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

  • Scholarship Search & Application Support:build and maintain a curated database of local, regional, and national scholarships while directly assisting students with essays, resumes, and recommendations, alongside establishing an accountability system to track application deadlines.
  • Financial Aid & FAFSA Completion:guide students and families through the financial aid process by hosting workshops, providing one-on-one assistance with FAFSA and state applications.
  • Student Outreach & Mentorship:Proactively engage and mentor at‑risk students by cultivating strong, trust‑based relationships that support their academic, behavioral, and social‑emotional development. Through holistic advocacy and targeted interventions, empower students to overcome personal barriers, build essential life skills, and stay on pace for graduation.
  • Key Role in MTSS Framework:Actively support the school’s MTSS framework with a primary focus on Tier 2 and Tier 3 students through ongoing monitoring, mentoring, intervention support, and progress tracking.
  • Relationship Building with Students:Build trust‑based relationships with students, recognizing that meaningful connections are foundational to addressing academic, behavioral, and social‑emotional needs.
  • Guidance and Advocacy:Provide holistic student support to help students meet academic, behavioral, and graduation requirements. Collaborate with families, teachers, counselors, and community partners while proactively monitoring attendance, engagement, and behavioral indicators.
  • Academic Support and Coaching:Support students in setting goals, completing progress monitoring tools, developing effective study habits, and building the skills necessary to transition successfully back to Tier 1 support when appropriate.
  • Communication and Collaboration:Maintain open, timely, and professional communication with students, families, staff, and community stakeholders to foster strong school-home partnerships and coordinated student support.
  • Data Collection and Progress Monitoring:Collect, monitor, and analyze student data related to attendance, academic progress, engagement, and behavior in order to inform interventions and support plans.
  • Record Keeping and Confidentiality:Maintain accurate documentation of student and family interactions while adhering to confidentiality requirements, professional ethics, and district policies.
  • Student Supervision:Assist in supervising students in both instructional and non‑instructional settings to help maintain a safe, supportive, and productive learning environment.
  • Social‑Emotional Support:Provide a safe and supportive environment where students can develop social‑emotional skills, self‑management strategies, resilience, and positive interpersonal skills.
  • Professional Growth:Participate in ongoing professional learning, staff collaboration, and school and district meetings to support continuous improvement.
  • Classroom Support and Substitute Coverage:Provide classroom support and substitute coverage as needed to maintain continuity of instruction and student engagement.
