Job Overview
Motor Vehicle Operator (MVO) in Washington, DC Metro area provides safe, reliable transportation for senior federal executives. The MVO operates buses, trucks, vans, and shuttle vans on scheduled or special runs between government facilities without direct supervision, ensuring punctuality and excellent customer service.
Responsibilities
- Operate motor vehicles of various types and classes on scheduled or special runs between government facilities.
- Verify passengers against manifests and complete all required paperwork, including trip tickets, fuel dispensing records, and incident reports.
- Adhere to all state, local, and installation traffic laws and ordinances, maneuver vehicles in and out of constricted areas, narrow city streets, and congested parking lots.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance checks on assigned vehicles and carry out first‑echelon maintenance tasks such as changing tires, installing an emergency fan belt, or replacing an electrical fuse.
- Maintain a professional appearance and courteous demeanor at all times, responding promptly to incidents, accidents, and changes in travel plans.
- Support executive transportation needs during and outside of standard business hours as required.
Required Experience & Skills
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and at least five years of professional driving experience.
- Ability to safely operate large vehicles, including buses, on diverse road conditions, navigating sharp corners and confined spaces.
- Vigilance and alertness to cope with adverse traffic and weather conditions.
- Physical fitness to perform driving tasks and, when necessary, light to moderate physical effort, including handling objects exceeding 50 pounds and vehicle‑maintenance tasks.
- Must obtain and maintain a Public Trust (Level 3) security clearance.
Preferred Experience & Skills
- Professional chauffeur or executive transportation driver background.
- Experience transporting senior government officials or federal executives.
- Familiarity with Washington, DC Metro area road network and government facility access protocols.
Required Education
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Preferred Education
- Completion of a professional driving, transportation, or automotive technology program.
- Formal training in vehicle operations, defensive driving, or fleet maintenance.
Security Clearance
Background screening and clearance directly from the Government may be required. Background check completion is a condition of continued employment.
