Primary Responsibilities And Duties
  • Operate a variety of vehicles and large heavy equipment while performing maintenance and repairs on roads and rights-of-way, including loading, hauling, and dumping on smooth to extremely rough surfaces.
  • Load gravel, dirt, and sand; smooth and grade roads; spread rock and gravel.
  • Trench and construct ditches for installation of culverts, water pipes, and sewer pipes; remove silt and debris.
  • Check and maintain all fluid levels and lubrication of equipment.
  • May instruct and train employees in safe operation of construction equipment and tools, and in job techniques and skills.
  • Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify errors, problems, or defects.
  • Estimate sizes, distances, and quantities; determine time, costs, resources, or materials needed for work activities.
  • Inspect subordinate's work for compliance with plans and specifications, address deficiencies, and take corrective actions.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, with relevant experience preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge and skills for the position.
  • Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions; effective communication skills.
  • Proficient in safe and efficient use of electrical, hand, power, and measurement tools.
Requirements
  • Ability to move about construction sites, including standing, walking, sitting, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  • Work outdoors in changing weather conditions.
  • Work irregular hours, including weekends, overtime, and holidays.
  • Ability to climb ladders, scaffolds, and mechanical platforms, sometimes exceeding 200 feet.
  • Work in confined, cluttered, and uneven spaces.
  • Complete tasks in noisy and dusty environments.
  • Move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Possess required tools and a valid U.S. Driver's License if necessary.
  • Follow safety and project rules; perform other duties as required.
  • Pass pre-access drug and alcohol testing.
