Operate one or several types of power construction equipment to excavate, move, and/or grade material.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Operate a variety of vehicles and large heavy equipment while performing maintenance and repairs on roads and rights-of-way, including loading, hauling, and dumping on various surfaces.
  • Load gravel, dirt, and sand; smooth and grade roads; spread rock and gravel.
  • Trench and construct ditches for the installation of culverts, water pipes, and sewer pipes; remove silt and debris.
  • Check and maintain all fluid levels and lubrication of equipment.
  • Instruct and train employees in safe operation of construction equipment, tools, and job techniques.
  • Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify errors, problems, or defects.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with relevant experience preferred.
  • Knowledge and skills necessary for the position.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions and communicate effectively.
  • Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and layout tools safely and efficiently.

Requirements

  • Ability to move about a construction site, including standing, walking, sitting, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Work irregular hours, including weekends, overtime, and holidays.
  • Climb ladders, scaffolds, and mechanical platforms, potentially exceeding 200 feet.
  • Work in confined, cluttered, and uneven spaces.
  • Complete tasks in noisy and dusty environments.
  • Lift and move items up to 50 pounds.
  • Possession of required tools.
  • U.S. Driver's License may be required.
  • Follow safety and project rules; perform other duties as assigned.
  • Pass pre-access drug and alcohol testing.
