Job summary

Newtown Savings Bank is seeking an organized Mortgage Processor II to manage a diverse loan pipeline, ensuring completeness and underwriting compliance. The role interfaces with loan officers, underwriters, and other stakeholders to enable timely closings.

The position is remote after onboarding, but candidates must live within commuting distance of Newtown, CT, and will attend training and meetings at the office as required.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of residential mortgage underwriting process and loan documentation.
  • Familiarity with state and federal real estate lending laws (TIL, RESPA, HMDA, CRA).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Process residential mortgage loans across programs in accordance with policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Deliver excellent customer service through proactive communication with borrowers and internal teams.
  • Analyze loan files (income, assets, credit) for completeness and accuracy before submission.
  • Submit files through automated underwriting systems (DU/LP).
  • Maintain accurate data in origination systems to ensure integrity.
  • Use fraud detection tools to identify discrepancies and resolve issues.
  • Serve as primary contact for borrowers, employers, appraisers, and attorneys to clear conditions.
  • Monitor documentation to ensure all items are received and conditions cleared.
  • Oversee loan pipeline to meet SLAs and progress from application to closing.
  • Collaborate with loan officers, underwriters, and closers to meet deadlines.
  • Identify risks and escalate appropriately in a fast-paced environment.
  • Prioritize tasks with strong time management and organization.
  • Support community presence through civic and business development activities.

Mortgage Processor II (Remote with onsite requirements)

Newtown Savings Bank is seeking an organized, self‑motivated, team player to join our Loan Origination Department as a Mortgage Processor II. The Processor II is responsible for delivering high‑quality loan processing by reviewing files for completeness and compliance with underwriting standards. The role serves as a key liaison between borrowers’ loan officers, underwriters, and other key stakeholders to ensure efficient and timely loan closings. The Processor II manages a pipeline of conventional, government, jumbo and portfolio loans, while maintaining accuracy, responsiveness, and regulatory compliance.

THIS POSITION IS REMOTE after onboarding is complete; however candidates must live within commuting distance to Newtown, CT, and will be required to visit the office for training, meetings, etc.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Process residential mortgage loans across various programs in accordance with bank policies, procedures, and all regulatory requirements.
  • Deliver excellent customer service through proactive communication and collaboration with all internal teams and external customers.
  • Analyze loan files, including income, asset, and credit documentation, to ensure completeness and accuracy prior to submission.
  • Submit loan files through automated underwriting systems (DU – Fannie Mae Desktop Underwriter or Freddie Mac Loan Product Advisor).
  • Maintain accurate and complete data within the loan origination systems to ensure data integrity.
  • Utilize fraud detection tools to identify discrepancies and resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for borrowers, employers, appraisal management companies, and attorneys to obtain and clear outstanding conditions.
  • Maintain consistent follow‑up to ensure all required documentation is received and conditions are cleared.
  • Monitor loan pipeline to meet service‑level expectations and ensure timely progression from application through closing.
  • Collaborate closely with loan officers, underwriters, and closers to meet established deadlines and performance standards.
  • Demonstrate strong critical thinking skills by identifying potential risks or issues and escalating properly.
  • Thrive in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment, while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Exhibit strong time management and organizational skills to effectively prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Support the bank’s community presence by participating in civic and community functions to promote business development opportunities.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • College degree or High School diploma required with 2-4 years of mortgage lending experience. Encompass experience is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills; both written and verbal.
  • Must be self‑motivated and solution oriented.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the residential mortgage underwriting process and loan documentation.
  • Candidate must be familiar with state and federal laws governing real estate lending transactions. (Truth‑in‑Lending, RESPA, HMDA, CRA)
  • Microsoft Excel and Word skills required.
