We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Mortgage Loan Processor to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing residential loan files from submission to closing, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with all regulatory guidelines and internal policies. You will work closely with loan officers, underwriters, borrowers, and third-party vendors to facilitate a seamless mortgage experience.
This role is preferred to be onsite at our Paramus, NJ office, as we highly value collaboration and team engagement. However, for the right candidate with strong experience and a proven ability to work independently, we are open to exploring a remote work arrangement.
Review all incoming loan applications for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with agency/investor guidelines.
Accurately input and maintain borrower data and documentation in the Loan Origination System (LOS), preferably Encompass.
Collect, organize, and verify necessary documentation including income statements, tax returns, pay stubs, asset documentation, credit reports, homeowner’s insurance, title, and appraisal.
Identify and resolve documentation discrepancies or missing information in a timely manner.
Serve as the primary point of contact for borrowers once the file is submitted, providing regular updates and maintaining professional, clear communication.
Collaborate with loan officers, underwriters, title agents, attorneys, and third-party vendors to ensure all documentation is in place for underwriting approval and closing.
Submit complete and accurate loan files to underwriting for initial and final review.
Follow up on underwriting conditions promptly and ensure all issues are resolved in compliance with investor guidelines.
Monitor pipeline to ensure loans progress within set timelines, identifying and resolving delays proactively.
Maintain a detailed task log and update loan status regularly within the LOS.
Ensure all processing activities meet internal company policies, investor guidelines (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, etc.), and federal/state regulations (TRID, RESPA, ECOA, etc.).
Assist with pre-closing audits and respond to any post-closing inquiries as needed.
Prepare final loan files for closing, ensuring all documents are accurate and complete.
Coordinate with the closing department, title companies, and attorneys to schedule closings and ensure all parties are aligned.
Minimum 5+ years of experience in residential mortgage loan processing.
Deep understanding of conventional and government loan products (FHA, VA, USDA), investor guidelines, and DU/LP findings.
Experience working with Encompass LOS is highly preferred.
Spanish speaking is highly preferred.
Familiarity with federal and state mortgage regulations.
Ability to ensure files are compliant and audit-ready.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with a customer-service mindset.
Ability to handle sensitive borrower information with discretion and professionalism.
High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to manage multiple loans simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, PDF editing software, and document management systems.
Comfortable learning new technologies and systems as needed.
Self-starter with the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
