Job summary

Midland Federal Savings and Loan Association is seeking a Mortgage Loan Officer Assistant to support loan officers through the origination process. Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 1–2 years mortgage lending, banking, real estate, title, or financial-services experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with mortgage terminology, documentation, and the loan origination process.
  • Experience with LOS platforms such as Encompass, LendingPad, Calyx Point, or similar systems.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and CRM systems.
  • NMLS registration or state licensing may be required depending on duties and law.

Responsibilities

  • Assist loan officers with mortgage applications from inquiry through closing.
  • Communicate with borrowers, agents, title companies, processors, underwriters, and internal teams.
  • Gather and review borrower documentation (income, assets, employment, insurance, ID).
  • Enter and update loan information in the loan origination system.
  • Monitor milestones, deadlines, conditions, and documentation.
  • Prepare loan files for processing and resolve missing or inconsistent data.
  • Provide timely status updates and explanations of next steps.
  • Schedule appointments and assist with pre-approvals and follow-ups.
  • Maintain records in line with policies and mortgage regulations.
  • Protect confidential borrower information.

Position Overview

Midland Federal Savings and Loan is seeking a highly organized and service-focused Mortgage Loan Officer Assistant (LOA) to support our loan officers throughout the mortgage origination process. This role coordinates borrower communication, collects documentation, maintains accurate loan files, and works closely with processing, underwriting, title, and other partners to help loans move efficiently toward closing.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, responsive, comfortable managing multiple deadlines, and committed to delivering an excellent borrower experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist loan officers with managing mortgage applications from initial inquiry through closing.
  • Communicate with borrowers, real estate agents, title companies, processors, underwriters, and internal teams.
  • Gather and review borrower documentation, including income, asset, employment, insurance, and identification records.
  • Enter and update borrower and loan information in the loan origination system.
  • Monitor loan milestones, deadlines, conditions, and outstanding documentation.
  • Prepare loan files for processing and help resolve incomplete or inconsistent information.
  • Provide borrowers with timely status updates and clear explanations of next steps.
  • Schedule appointments and assist with pre-approval and follow-up activities.
  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with company policies and applicable mortgage regulations.
  • Protect confidential borrower and financial information.
  • Support loan officer relationship-building, pipeline management, and business-development activities.
  • Perform other administrative and operational duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • [1-2] years of mortgage lending, banking, real estate, title, or financial-services experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with mortgage terminology, documentation, and the loan origination process.
  • Experience with [Encompass, Byte, LendingPad, Calyx Point, or other LOS] preferred.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple files and priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • High level of accuracy, discretion, and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and customer relationship management systems.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.
  • NMLS registration or state licensing may be required depending on assigned duties and applicable law.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience supporting a high-producing mortgage loan officer or team.
  • Knowledge of conventional, FHA, VA, USDA, and jumbo loan products.
  • Familiarity with compliance requirements, disclosures, and underwriting conditions.
  • Bilingual communication skills, particularly in [Language], are a plus.
