SIU Credit Union is seeking a Mortgage Loan Originator in Carbondale, IL. You will guide members from initial interview through underwriting to closing, offering expert counseling and ensuring accurate compliance.

The role combines technical processing with high-touch member service, requiring knowledge of mortgage products, regulatory rules, and the ability to coordinate with internal teams for timely closings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Active NMLS registration required.
• Experience with loan documents preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct borrower interviews, quote rates, and provide credit counseling.
• Manage loan applications from intake to closing.
• Verify income, order appraisals and title commitments, and prepare final documents.
• Approve or deny first mortgages and home equity loans within limits.
• Coordinate closings and disburse funds for in-house and secondary market loans.
• Ensure compliance with RESPA and HMDA requirements.
