Mortgage Underwriter
The Mortgage Underwriter I reviews standard residential mortgage applications, evaluates borrower creditworthiness, and ensures compliance with company guidelines and regulatory requirements.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Underwrite a limited range of mortgage loans. Primarily focused on HELOCs, fixed-rate Home Equity loans, Equity Rich fixed-rate loans and Equity Rich lines of Credits. Assisting with first mortgage refinances, purchases and construction loans as needed.
- Review mortgage loan applications, credit reports, financial documents, and collateral to make approval or denial decisions based on established criteria and program guidelines.
- Assess loan risk and request additional information when needed.
- Work with processors and loan officers to communicate approval conditions.
- Review property appraisals to confirm collateral value is properly documented.
- Complete all required GECU mortgage lending and Elevate U! training courses.
- Maintain the required NMLS designation.
- Perform other assigned duties.
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or GED required
- Minimum of one year Mortgage experience or equivalent
