Job summary

CapCenter, a Richmond, Virginia-based mortgage lender, seeks a Director of Accounting to own end-to-end accounting including close, GL, financial statements, tax, and internal controls. You will lead the team, manage external auditors, and interface with regulators and business partners to ensure accurate, compliant financial reporting.

The role demands 15+ years in accounting with full close ownership, mortgage or regulated finance experience, and strong US GAAP expertise.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting and CPA required.
• 15+ years of progressive accounting experience, including full close cycle and external audit.
• Mortgage lender or regulated financial services experience preferred.
• Strong US GAAP technical accounting; ability to research, write, and defend positions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with auditors, tax advisors, CFO.
• Advanced Excel and financial systems proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, including calendar management, reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, intercompany activity, and final financial statement tie-out.
• Maintain the general ledger, chart of accounts, and books of record for audit readiness.
• Produce timely US GAAP financial statements: income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow.
• Own accounting for loan sales, MSR, fair value, and related disclosures.
• Reconcile loan-level activity from LOS and secondary markets to the GL.
• Produce regulatory reporting and covenant inputs.
• Lead external audit, including walkthroughs, samples, and remediation of findings.
• Ensure GAAP compliance and internal control effectiveness.
