Job summary

UWH of The Carolinas Laboratory is seeking an Accessioner I to support cytology, histology, and molecular specimens. The role emphasizes accurate data entry, specimen labeling, and adherence to safety procedures in a busy lab environment.

Responsibilities include receiving specimens, organizing supplies, and assisting lab staff while maintaining compliance with lab guidelines and processes. A high school diploma and data entry skills are required; medical terminology knowledge is a plus.

Qualifications

• High school degree or equivalent; strong data entry skills.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
• 2 years’ experience as a lab assistant, specimen processor, or relevant experience in a lab is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Receive and process specimens consistent with testing requirements and proper labeling.
• Identify and distribute specimens to appropriate testing areas.
• Perform clerical and administrative duties.
• Organize lab supplies to maintain inventory levels.
• Communicate specimen non-conformities to technical staff.
• Clean and maintain work area and lab equipment.
• Follow health, safety and chemical hygiene procedures.
• Assist technical staff with additional duties as needed.
