Job summary

Somerville Public Schools is seeking an ABE Reading/Writing 3 AM Teacher to raise reading and writing levels of about 15-20 adult students pursuing a high school equivalency credential. You will teach reading, writing and social studies topics, plan curriculum with the Program Administrator, and maintain attendance and progress records.

The role requires experience in literacy instruction, training in explicit reading/writing strategies, and collaboration with a team of educators.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s in ESOL or adult literacy preferred.
• Minimum 3 years classroom teaching experience—at least one year with adult immigrants.
• Familiarity with learner-centered teaching approaches and explicit reading/writing strategies.

Responsibilities

• Prepare lesson plans weekly following curriculum guidelines.
• Attend department meetings and in-service workshops.
• Evaluate student progress and make placement recommendations.
• Complete attendance and assessment tasks per DESE requirements.
• Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and program administrator.
• Integrate technology into instruction.
