Job summary

The Dane County Medical Examiner's Office is seeking a Limited Term Employee (LTE) Morgue Technician to support autopsy procedures and morgue operations on a rotating schedule. Responsibilities include assisting pathologists, handling specimens, and ensuring a clean, organized work area for safe processing of decedents.

The LTE role is limited to 1,200 hours per payroll year with no guaranteed hours, and a 1% wage reduction is reflected for 2026.

Qualifications

• A combination of education, training and experience equivalent to an Associate’s degree in a medical, funerary or forensic field AND hands-on experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist forensic pathologists in autopsies and related procedures.
• Handle and document specimens and evidence with proper chain of custody.
• Maintain morgue cleanliness and organize supplies and equipment.
• Prepare bodies for autopsy and release as required.
• Assist with postmortem imaging and histology sample handling.
