Moonlight Studios Chicago is seeking a dependable freelance Event Porter to support events at our venue. This on-call role involves maintaining a clean, safe and guest-ready environment during setup, events and breakdown, with evening, weekend, late-night and holiday shifts required.

Porters help with restrooms, trash and recycling, and collaboration with guests, vendors and venue staff. Prior porter or hospitality experience is preferred; reliable transportation is expected.

Qualifications

• Experience in porter, custodial, housekeeping or event-venue roles preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of guest areas, restrooms, hallways, entrances, loading and back-of-house spaces.
• Restroom checks, restocking supplies as needed.
• Monitor and empty trash and recycling; ensure proper disposal per procedures.
• Adhere to safety procedures and use cleaning products and equipment correctly.
• Respond promptly to spills or other cleaning needs and restore areas.
• Assist with setup, post-event cleanup and furniture reconfiguration as required.
• Keep porter stations organized and track supplies during shifts.
• Provide courteous assistance to guests and coordinate with venue staff.

Freelance Event Porter

Reports To: Venue Manager and Event Manager

Position Summary

This is not a Project Manager position with our in-house AV company. This role is strictly for event portering and on-site event support for the venue team.

Moonlight Studios Chicago is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented freelance Event Porter to support events at our venue. Event Porters help maintain a clean, safe, organized and guest-ready environment throughout event setup, guest hours and breakdown.

This is an on-call position with shifts scheduled according to the venue’s event calendar. Evening, weekend, late-night, and occasional holiday availability is required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of guest areas, restrooms, hallways, entrances, loading areas and back-of-house spaces
• Complete restroom checks throughout events, including restocking paper products, soap and other supplies
• Monitor and empty trash and recycling receptacles before they become full
• Monitor vendors’ waste-disposal practices and help ensure all trash, recycling and other materials are placed in the proper receptacles in accordance with Moonlight Studios Chicago’s garbage and dumpster procedures
• Respond promptly and discreetly to spills, broken glass and other cleaning needs
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, wipe down surfaces and spot-clean areas as needed
• Assist with pre-event preparation and post-event cleanup
• Help reset furniture, remove debris and return venue areas to their standard condition
• Maintain organized porter stations and track cleaning supplies during each shift
• Notify venue management of safety hazards, property damage, plumbing problems, supply shortages or unusual conditions
• Follow venue safety procedures and instructions for using cleaning products and equipment
• Work respectfully around guests, clients, vendors, caterers, production crews and other venue personnel
• Provide professional and courteous assistance when approached by guests
• Complete assigned opening, event and closing checklists
• Perform other event-support duties as assigned by venue management

Qualifications

• Previous porter, custodial, housekeeping, hospitality, restaurant or event-venue experience is preferred
• Dependable, punctual and able to work with limited supervision
• Strong attention to cleanliness, presentation and detail
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced event environment
• Professional demeanor and good communication skills
• Able to follow written and verbal instructions
• Willing to work evenings, weekends, late nights and holidays as event schedules require
• Reliable transportation to and from Moonlight Studios Chicago

Physical Requirements

• Ability to remain standing and walking for extended periods
• Ability to bend, kneel, reach, push, pull, and climb stairs
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Ability to move trash containers, cleaning equipment, supplies, and lightweight venue furnishings
• Ability to work around cleaning products, loud music, event lighting, and large groups of people
• Ability to work both indoors and in exterior entrance or loading areas when required

Scheduling

Freelance Event Porters are scheduled on an as-needed basis. Shift lengths and start times vary depending on event requirements and may include setup, event coverage, and post-event breakdown. Scheduled hours are not guaranteed and may change with the venue’s event calendar.

Professional Standards

Event Porters are expected to arrive on time, dressed in the required uniform or event attire and ready to work at the scheduled start time. Because this is a client-facing venue, discretion, professionalism, personal hygiene and a guest-service mindset are required at all times.
