Shining Stars Montessori Academy PCS in Washington, DC seeks a Classroom Teaching Assistant to support Lead Guide in Montessori classrooms for Children’s House to Lower Elementary. This 10-month, full-time role offers hands-on practice, mentorship, and a pathway to Montessori certification.

Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor's degree required or preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of prior work experience, preferably in Montessori or diverse public/charter schools.
• Current First Aid and CPR certification.
• CDA certification preferred but not required.
• Bilingualism in Spanish, French, or Amharic is a plus.
• Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
• Must complete Montessori classroom assistant training and RBT training during the year.
• Sense of humor and love of children.

Responsabilités

• Manage the classroom to protect the lead teacher's lessons.
• Encourage independence and model appropriate manners and behaviors.
• Work with individuals or small groups as directed by the lead guide/teacher.
• Prepare the Montessori classroom environment to meet students' needs and interests.
• Take attendance daily for the Guide.
• Provide instruction or serve as Co-Teacher/Guide under supervision of the Lead Guide.
• Assist in maintaining the prepared Montessori classroom environment by cleaning and replenishing materials.
• Move throughout the classroom to keep it clean, lively, and inviting.
• Create materials as required by the lead guide/teacher.
• Participate in data collection and assessment training; record attendance in PowerSchool.
• Input observations in SSMA SIS and other systems; discuss with staff as appropriate.
• Assist with administering teacher-developed or standardized assessments (EC, LE and UE).
• Provide primary supervision during non-academic times (arrival, lunch, recess, dismissal, before/after care).
• Communicate student development to the lead teacher.
• Enter attendance daily and support attendance initiatives for families facing challenges.
• Assist with ongoing supervision and communication during non-academic times.
