One of the Midwest's largest energy companies is searching for a Monitoring Engineer to join their Dynatrace Observability team in Columbus, OH. In this high-visibility role, you will be at the forefront of modernizing enterprise monitoring across critical infrastructure that powers millions of homes and businesses. You will have the opportunity to drive full-stack visibility, optimize application performance, and shape how technical teams detect, analyze, and resolve incidents across hybrid-cloud environments.
This exciting opportunity to champion cutting-edge observability practices begins as a 1-year W2 contract based in Columbus, OH. Responsibilities
- Manage the administration, configuration, and day-to-day health of the enterprise Dynatrace SaaS platform, including ActiveGates, extensions, access controls, and synthetic monitors.
- Partner with application and infrastructure teams to design, implement, and validate end-to-end monitoring using OneAgent, Real User Monitoring (RUM), and Smartscape topology.
- Drive telemetry consumption tracking, identify unexpected data growth, and recommend cost-effective optimization strategies while maintaining deep coverage.
- Enhance alert quality and incident routing by eliminating alert fatigue, tuning anomaly detection rules, and establishing seamless integration with ServiceNow.
- Perform proactive application performance monitoring (APM) and deep-dive root cause analysis across complex multi-tier architectures and Azure cloud workloads.
- Bridge observability across cloud, network, and on-premises systems by correlating cross-platform performance data, flow metrics, and system traces.
- Develop automated workflows and scripts to streamline agent deployments, operational reporting, and recurring maintenance procedures.
- Create high-impact executive dashboards and service-level objective (SLO/KPI) reports that translate operational data into clear business outcomes.
- Provide escalation support for monitoring platform incidents, troubleshoot agent and data collection issues, and coordinate directly with vendor support when required.
Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent practical professional experience).
- 2 to 5 years of dedicated hands-on experience administering and engineering Dynatrace and enterprise observability solutions.
- Proven track record supporting enterprise-scale application performance monitoring (APM) environments.
- Practical experience deploying and managing monitoring for Microsoft Azure cloud environments and services.
- Demonstrated experience with incident troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and operational runbook creation.
- Familiarity with scripting and automation techniques to streamline system configurations and data collection.
- Working knowledge of network performance tools and multi-tier infrastructure architectures.
- Experience utilizing enterprise IT Service Management (ITSM) platforms, particularly ServiceNow, for alert routing and ticketing workflows.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience operating within large-scale, enterprise environments.
- Relevant industry certifications such as Microsoft Azure or ITIL.
- Deep familiarity with multi-tool observability ecosystems and telemetry pipelines.
- A strong DevOps and automation-first mindset.
- Proven ability to interpret deep technical metrics and clearly present their impact on business goals.
