Job summary

Sentara Louise Obici Hospital in Suffolk, VA is hiring a Monitor Technician to observe, interpret, and document EKG tracings on telemetry patients to detect deviations from normal.

Shifts are days (7A–7P). Candidates must complete a monitor technician surveillance program (or certificate within 90 days) and may substitute 1 year of recent monitor surveillance experience. Basic understanding of cardiac monitoring is strongly desired.

Qualifications

• High School Grad or Equivalent - Required.
• Completion of a monitor technician surveillance program/course required upon hire.
• If not completed, a certificate program must be completed within 90 days of hire.
• 1 year experience in monitor technician surveillance within the last 5 years may be substituted.

Responsibilities

• Observe, recognize, interpret, evaluate and document EKG tracings on telemetry-monitored patients to detect deviations from normal.
• Maintain documentation of telemetry observations during assigned shift.
• Communicate findings to nursing staff as needed.
• Days shift from 7A–7P.

Overview:

Sentara Louise Obici Hospital is now hiring a Monitor Technician. This position Observes, recognizes, interprets, evaluates, and documents EKG tracings on telemetry-monitored patients in order to detect deviations from patient’s norm.

Days 7A - 7P

Education

High School Grad or Equivalent - Required

Certification/Licensure

• Completion of a monitor technician surveillance program/course required upon hire.
• Candidates who have not completed a monitor technician surveillance program must complete a certificate program within 90 days of hire.
• Or 1 year experience in monitor technician surveillance within the last 5 years will be accepted in substitute of a monitor tech surveillance program/course.

To be released from new employee orientation all Monitor Technicians must successfully complete the Sentara Basic Arrhythmia competency tool which includes passing a basic arrhythmia exam.

Experience

Any previous health care experience can be considered. Basic understanding of cardiac monitoring or EKG is strongly desired.
