Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital is recruiting for a Monitor Technician to perform continuous surveillance of patients’ cardiac monitors and to promptly notify nursing staff of rhythm or hemodynamic changes. The role involves documenting findings in the electronic medical record and assisting with timely communications and handoffs.

Ideal candidates will have a High School Diploma or GED, healthcare-related training or patient care experience, basic medical terminology knowledge, and BLS

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED required.
• Formal training in Allied Health or healthcare field OR one year of patient care experience in a hospital, nursing home, or healthcare setting.
• Basic medical terminology knowledge and computer/typing skills.
• BLS Certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform ongoing surveillance of patients’ cardiac monitors, rhythm, and vital signs.
• Notify nursing staff of changes per clinician orders and departmental protocols.
• Interpret cardiac/hemodynamic rhythm and document findings in the EMR.
• Answer calls and communicate clearly when receiving/delivering information.
• Orient and mentor new caregivers, acting as a training resource for CMU and nursing units.
• Provide shift reports for the oncoming team.

It is also one of the busiest Emergency Rooms in the Cleveland Clinic enterprise. By joining the Emergency Department as a Monitor Technician, you will perform ongoing surveillance of patients' cardiac monitors and provide appropriate nursing staff with timely notification of changes in cardiac rhythm and/or hemodynamics that could impact patient condition. A caregiver in this position works nights from 6:45PM – 7:15AM, with weekend and holiday requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Perform ongoing surveillance of patients’ cardiac monitors, cardiac rhythm and vital signs.
• Notify appropriate nursing staff of any changes according to clinician, provider orders and/or in accordance with departmental protocols.
• Interpret patient cardiac/hemodynamic rhythm and document in the electronic medical record.
• Answer the telephone and communicate clearly when receiving and delivering information.
• Orient and mentor new caregivers, serving as a training and troubleshooting resource for the CMU and nursing units.
• Provide reports for the oncoming shift.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care activities through formal training program in Allied Health or a healthcare field (e.g., Nursing, Medical Assisting, EMT or a similar field) OR one year of patient care experience in a hospital, nursing home or healthcare setting
• Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, computer and typing skills
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Completion of EKG/Cardiac Monitoring Course
• Experience as a Monitor Technician
• Demonstrated skill in recognizing abnormal cardiac rhythms

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work in a fast paced environment under moderate pressure, multi-task with accuracy to keep track of a large number of patients and requires long periods of sitting and watching a computer monitors.
• Visual acuity for observing cardiac monitor data.

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
