The Monitor Technician observes, recognizes, interprets, evaluates, and documents EKG tracings on telemetry-monitored patients in order to detect deviations from the patient's norm, promptly notifies appropriate personnel of dysrhythmias, operates and utilizes monitoring system to full capacity, and ensures proper and safe functioning of the telemetry equipment.
This position will rotate between all areas of the hospital with cardiac monitoring patients with the exception of the LDRP and Emergency Departments.
The Telemetry/Stroke team at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital provides care for patients with cardiac conditions including heart failure, cardiac rhythm disturbances, newly implanted permanent pacemakers and defibrillators, post-coronary interventions, post-ablation, myocardial infarctions. Each Monitor Technician can expect an average of 20-36 patients per shift.
