Job summary

Prisma Health's Blount Memorial Hospital is seeking a Telemetry Surveillance Monitor Technician to observe cardiac monitors and identify rhythm changes under the supervision of a registered nurse. Responsibilities

• Observe cardiac monitors and report any changes in rhythm per policy.
• Receive report from the previous shift and document strips per policy.
• Manage and distribute transmitter boxes; ensure return after discontinuation of telemetry monitoring.
• Report telemetry system issues to designated personnel and departments.
• Complete telemetry summary reports per policy guidelines.
• Triage incoming calls, provide information, and log phone conversations.
• Maintain supplies and keep monitoring areas clean and organized.
• Participate in training and development of new staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Observes cardiac monitors to identify abnormal heart rhythms under the supervision of a registered nurse. Performs duties in a centralized monitoring environment that monitors patients across multiple departments.

Essential Functions

• All team members are expected to be knowledgeable and compliant with Prisma Health's purpose: Inspire health. Serve with compassion. Be the difference.
• Observes cardiac monitors and reports any changes in cardiac rhythm per policy.
• Receives report from the previous shift and documents strips per policy.
• Responsible for the management and distribution of transmitter boxes. Ensures transmitter boxes are returned to the surveillance center in a timely manner after discontinuation of telemetry monitoring.
• Reports problems regarding poor transmission, etc. to the appropriate unit and personnel. Reports telemetry system failures to designated personnel and departments.
• Completes telemetry summary report per policy guidelines.
• Triages incoming phone calls, provides appropriate information in a calm and concise manner and logs phone calls.
• Maintains adequate supplies and keeps the monitoring areas and equipment clean and organized.
• Participates in training and the continuous development of new staff. Attends educational programs, in-services and meetings as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

• This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.

Minimum Requirements

• Education - High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience - No previous experience required. Previous experience in a healthcare setting preferred.

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

• After hire, requires attendance of formal arrhythmia training class and successful completion of the Prisma Health Arrhythmia exam with a minimum passing score within 2 attempts.
• Successful completion of the arrhythmia exam must be completed within 30 days of hire.
• Arrhythmia competencies must be maintained on an annual basis if working in a monitor tech role.
