Job summary

Pardee UNC Health Care is seeking a part-time Telemetry Monitoring Technician to assist under the supervision of an RN. The position emphasizes patient safety, accuracy in EMR documentation, and completion of an annual EKG competency test as part of orientation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
• Experience or training with medical terminology is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Documents and interprets patient’s heart rhythm and rate using telemetry recordings and reports changes to the RN.
• Alerts nursing staff to arrhythmias or significant changes from baseline.
• Issues telemetry equipment to newly admitted patients and maintains inventory.
• Coordinates with outside vendor support to maintain telemetry equipment.
• Tracks telemetry to ensure continuity and proper return to measurement.
• Ensures patient safety by notifying the charge nurse of risk factors.
• Inputs clinical documentation and charges into the EMR system.
• Completes the annual EKG competency test as part of Monitor Technician orientation.

Summary

Under supervision of an RN, the Cardiac Telemetry Tech assists with clinical care by monitoring and recording cardiac rhythms.

Responsibilities

• Documents and interprets patient’s heart rhythm and rate by utilizing telemetry recordings. Identifies patient arrhythmias/abnormalities or significant changes from baseline and reports changes immediately to the assigned nurse.
• Alerts nursing staff in the event of arrhythmias/abnormalities or significant changes from baseline.
• Issues telemetry equipment to patients newly admitted to unit. Maintains inventory of and tracks issued equipment.
• Coordinates with outside vendor support to maintain and service telemetry equipment.
• Tracks and ensures continuity of telemetry, recording patient leaving unit or disconnecting leads and working to ensure effective return to measurement.
• Ensures patient safety at all times by notifying the charge nurse of any risk factors seen and maintaining appropriate safety measures as outlined in policies and procedures.
• Inputs clinical documentation and charges into electronic medical recordkeeping (EMR) tool.
• Demonstrates proper performance of skills reflected and validated by the Monitor Technician orientation/skills checklist, which includes an annual EKG competency test.

Other Information

This position is subject to a yearly EKG competency test.

Requirements
