Job summary

HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast in Pasadena, Texas, is seeking a Monitor Tech to monitor ECG patterns, document strips, and alert RNs to dangerous rhythms. You will educate staff on the telemetry system and support a collaborative patient-care environment.

The role emphasizes attention to accuracy, adherence to policies, and participation in performance-improvement activities. Local travel is not required and a High School/GED with BLS is required within 30 days of start.

Qualifications

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
  • High School Graduate / GED.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with review and interpretation of ECG strips and documents interpretations in medical records.
  • Completes and demonstrates proficiency with unit-based clinical competencies.
  • Educates staff and physicians on the telemetry monitoring system.
  • Diligently observes cardiac monitors for abnormal heart rhythm variations.
  • Reports life-threatening arrhythmias to the RN promptly and notifies RN of other changes in rhythm.
  • Participates in hospital performance improvement activities to improve safety and outcomes.

Job Summary And Qualifications

The Telemetry Tech monitors the ECG patterns of patients and facilitates the review and documentation of ECG strips. Evaluates ECG rhythms and notifies the RN of dangerous arrhythmias and/or other changes. Works collaboratively with hospital staff and other personnel in maintaining quality patient care in the clinical setting. Participates in performance improvement activities to improve patient safety and quality of care. Values each individual's unique and intrinsic worth when dealing with patients, visitors, co-workers and other customers. Promotes a supportive, team-work oriented environment. Fulfills departmental responsibilities consistent with the long-range plan, mission, vision and values of Bayshore Medical Center.

What you will do in this role:
  • Assists with the review and interpretation of ECG strips. Accurately documents the interpretation of ECG strips and places appropriate ECG strips in the medical record.
  • Completes and demonstrates proficiency with unit based clinical and age-appropriate nursing competencies.
  • Complies with applicable hospital policy/procedure.
  • Educates staff and physicians on function and use of the telemetry monitoring system.
  • Essential duties and responsibilities include the following: Diligently observes cardiac monitors for the presence of abnormal variations in heart rhythm.
  • Ethics and Compliance. Accountable for attending annual Code of Conduct training.
  • Immediately reports life threatening arrhythmias to the RN and timely notifies RN of other changes in patient’s cardiac rhythm.
  • Participates in hospital performance improvement activities to improve safety and patient outcomes.
  • Performs general maintenance of the telemetry system (cleans telemetry boxes & leads, checks function of the system, maintain supplies).
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

  • Respects the patient’s privacy and maintains confidentiality of health care and other information.

  • Utilizes appropriate infection control techniques and universal precautions as part of job duties.
