Job summary

Orting School District is seeking a part-time School Assistant to help monitor student safety and support the principal in maintaining a positive, well-managed environment.

Hours are 2.0 per day, Monday through Friday from 11:10 am to 1:10 pm. The position pays on the 2026-27 PSE Salary Schedule A, $22.90–$25.78 per hour, DOE, with benefits eligibility based on hours worked.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Current First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Ability to relate to students, staff, and parents.
  • Organized and efficient time management.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Meet minimum reading, writing, math, and technology assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide for the safety of students at assigned work area by enforcing the rules.
  • Administer basic First Aid and assistance to students.
  • Help settle disputes between students through problem-solving methods.
  • Report and document serious concerns/incidents to the school administration.
  • Be aware of potentially hazardous conditions in the assigned work area.
  • Promote opportunities for cooperative interaction/play between students as appropriate to the assigned work area.
  • Help monitor special circumstances/needs for individual children.
  • Work cooperatively with other staff members in the school.
  • Keep track of playground equipment on a daily basis.
  • Be a positive role model for children.
  • Work with students in behavioral remediation settings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

This is not an instructional position subject to meeting the state minimum employment requirements.

Working Environment

Job duties involve sitting, walking, standing, stooping, crouching and climbing. May be exposed to high noise levels. May be required to deal with distraught students. Work is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

Terms Of Employment

Work Year: 180 days, regular school year (plus paid holidays that fall within the work year calendar)

Hours: 2.0 hours per day

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 11:10 am - 1:10 pm (hours subject to change based on student/operational need)

Salary: 2026-27 PSE Salary Schedule A

$22.90 - $25.78 per hour DOE

Evaluation: Performance is evaluated by the building principal with input from other staff as appropriate.
