Nelnet Business Services (NBS) seeks a Database Administrator to own MongoDB Atlas environments across production, test and development workloads in Lincoln, Nebraska. The role emphasizes building deeper MongoDB and NoSQL expertise while supporting a growing platform.

Responsibilities span backups, security, performance tuning, upgrades, capacity planning, and incident response; collaboration with engineering teams is required to ensure reliability and scalability of database services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Technology or a related field. Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
• Hands-on experience with MongoDB Atlas strongly preferred.
• Experience with relational databases and cloud platforms is valuable.

Responsibilities

• Supports day-to-day administration and operational health of MongoDB Atlas across production, test and preview environments.
• Monitors alerts and performance metrics; reviews cluster health and resource utilization.
• Assists with capacity management, workload trends and autoscaling behavior.
• Analyzes query and index performance to identify optimization opportunities.
• Collaborates with development teams to investigate inefficient queries and tuning changes.
• Supports security, access controls, backup and recovery for MongoDB databases, collections and indexes.
• Participates in incident response and production troubleshooting to restore service.
