Job summary

Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Bronson Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, is seeking a laboratory professional for the Molecular Biology Section. The role focuses on daily molecular testing of clinical samples, including PCR/qPCR, with data entry into LIMS and coordination with the Section Head for final release to clients.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree (4 years) in biological, physical, natural, or agricultural sciences plus two years of related professional experience, or
• A master’s degree (6 years) plus one year of related professional experience, or
• A doctorate (8 years) in the described fields.
• Requires possession of a valid driver license.
• Educational note: foreign credentials evaluated by approved agencies if degree obtained outside the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily molecular tests for clinical samples in the Molecular Biology Section (PCR, qPCR, and other molecular tests) with independence and technical judgment.
• Process and test samples from various animal sources, enter results into LIMS, and discuss results with the Section Head before release.
• Maintain QA/QC records, follow SOPs, and ensure high-quality laboratory procedures across BSL2/BSL3 environments.
• Coordinate test orders, ensure timely reports to clients, and participate in staff training and cross-training.
• Assist in assay development and validation, and support instrument maintenance and calibration activities.
